I have been
fascinated with insects and the natural world ever since I was a young
boy growing up in Manchester, Jamaica. This fascination naturally led
me to the field of biology, and I eventually received my Bachelor of
Science (BSc) in zoology at Mona, Kingston, Jamaica from the University of the West Indies in
1998. After completing my undergraduate studies, I continued on to
graduate school where, after a short stint as a teaching assistant, I
secured a graduate assistantship with the Jamaican Iguana Recovery
Group. My graduate research led to the completion of a Masters of
Philosophy (MPhil) in zoology in 2002. I started as a part-time
instructor at Northern Caribbean University in
Jamaica while I was still in graduate school, and accepted a full time
faculty position upon completing my graduate degree. While there, I
taught several introductory and advanced biology courses and served as
the Coordinator of Laboratories for the Biology Department. I was
accepted at the University of Florida Entomology and Nematology Department
in
2004 and
was awarded a Master of Science (MS) and eventually a Doctor of
Philosophy
(PhD) working on Lepidoptera taxonomy. I have one year post-doctoral
experience prior to accepting my current position.
My main research interests are in phylogeography, systematics, insect conservation, and radar entomology. I have a small lab and I am currently not looking for graduate students but welcome volunteers.
For more information, please request a copy of my Curriculum Vitae (CV).

"Life
is difficult. Once you accept
that, it becomes a lot easier! But most of us don't accept that. We
think if we do things the right way, or if other people would, then
eventually life would become easier. Our material needs will be met,
love will bloom forever, bad things won't happen to us, and life will
unfold according to our individual needs and wishes. Guess again......."
MS Peck

"The greatest want of the world is the want of men - men who will not be bought or sold, men who in their inmost souls are true and honest, men who do not fear to call sin by its right name, men whose conscience is as true to duty as the needle to the pole, men who will stand for the right though the heavens fall."
